About Taylor
"I want to know as much as possible about how you experience your life โ so I can help you face it with greater confidence, courage, resilience, and authenticity."
My name is Taylor Horton, and I own and operate Four Pillars Counseling, PLLC. If you seek counseling here, you will be working directly with me.
I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from East Texas A&M University, where I completed additional coursework in couples and family counseling beyond the core curriculum. After graduating, I provided individual, couples, and family counseling at a group practice in Rockwall, Texas.
Before I chose to transition into counseling, I practiced law in Texas. I earned my Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Baylor University School of Law and my Bachelor of Science in Economics from Southern Methodist University, with a year studying abroad at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. I experienced the legal profession's stressors firsthand โ the mental, emotional, and physical tolls they take. That experience is why I have a special interest in working with attorneys, though I counsel people from all kinds of backgrounds and professions.
When I am not working, I am either reading or spending time in nature with my family. We live in Northwest Arkansas, and I love hiking the trails, fishing, and mountain biking. I have a strong interest in military and political histories, philosophy, and existentially related works.
Services
Whether you are navigating personal challenges, strengthening a relationship, or managing the unique pressures of a legal career, Four Pillars Counseling provides a space for honest, courageous work.
Embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth. Individual therapy provides a space for conversation, exploration of emotions, and the development of strategies to overcome life's challenges. I work primarily from an existential lens โ helping you understand how you relate to core human conditions like mortality, isolation, choice, anxiety, and meaning.
Begin your journey โCloser together through therapy. I take an integrative approach drawing from theories within the systems paradigm, helping you explore trust, commitment, communication patterns, family-of-origin dynamics, conflict management, and much more. The goal is a healthier, more supportive relationship.
Strengthen your relationship โThe legal profession can be uniquely rewarding and deeply challenging. Long hours, relentless deadlines, high stakes, difficult clients and colleagues โ sometimes the toll is extended anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, or troubling coping behaviors. I practiced law before transitioning to counseling. I know the profession firsthand, I speak your professional language, and I want to help you.
Confidential support โRefreshing freedom and flexibility. Engage in therapy from the comfort of your home or any private place convenient for you. The teletherapy format saves you significant indirect costs โ transportation, travel time โ while allowing sessions in a private setting where you will be most comfortable. Currently available to Texas residents.

"I want to help you face life with greater confidence, courage, resilience, and authenticity."
With individuals, I work primarily from an existential lens. That is a fancy label for a simple but powerful and flexible approach. I want to understand how you relate to certain core human conditions โ mortality, isolation, choice and anxiety, and questions of meaning โ so we can work toward a life lived with greater intentionality.
With couples, I take an integrative approach drawing from theories within the systems paradigm. I combine targeted pieces from different relationship approaches to help you reach your goals. Couples can expect to explore everything from trust and commitment to behavioral and communication patterns, from family-of-origin dynamics to conflict management practices.
For attorneys specifically, I bring the unique understanding of someone who practiced law before choosing this path. I know the pressures. I speak the language. And I understand why asking for help can feel especially difficult in a profession that rewards self-reliance.
Our Foundation
These are the commitments that guide every session, every relationship, and every decision at Four Pillars Counseling.
We are supportive and compassionate, but we do not sugar-coat difficulty or diminish it. We never allow considerations of "keeping a client" to compromise our candor. You deserve the truth.
We do not fear difficulty. Difficult emotions, difficult facts, difficult circumstances, difficult words, difficult relationships โ you are welcome and encouraged to bring them here.
We strive to provide value in every session and deal reasonably with you if you cannot afford the full base rate. We consistently ensure sessions are proceeding in the direction you need.
The counseling relationship should not be open-ended. It should serve its purpose and end. We raise termination at the beginning and work toward it efficiently. We never prolong therapy past the point where it benefits you.
